My Romanian Diary Day 43: Snow and 588 members in the Romanian parliament, hosted by the largest building in the world

Dear diary,

It’s been a while, I know. I have no reason why I didn’t write these last days. I just didn’t.

Romanian updates: we are still under snow, small villages are isolated, not so small villages are also isolated, people in charge with the situation are overwhelmed etc. Nothing new. Good news is we are gonna have positive temperatures starting Sunday so the snow will melt, so no need to remove it. Yay!

But the elections! Wow! I won’t comment on who won and what will happen, because this is not interesting. What is interesting is that in 2009 there was a referendum, asking people if they want fewer members in the parliament.

Ok, this referendum happened in the same day with the presidential elections and I suspected then an intention of the president to fraud the elections. I am pretty sure I suspected right because he got re-elected and even though the people voted to decrease the number of the members of the parliament to a maximum of 300, this never happened. We had the same number as before the referendum, meaning around 500, till last Sunday. Now we have 588. And we have recession going on and the salaries are crappy and people are starving.

But the biggest problem is there is not enough room in the parliament for them. And this is when the jokes started, because we are such a funny people. They screw us up, we laugh at them. So, why the jokes, you may wonder. Because the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest, Romania, is a multi-purpose building containing both chambers of the Romanian Parliament. According to the World Records Academy, the Palace is the world’s largest civilian building, most expensive administrative building, and heaviest building. Yet, there is not enough room.

I honestly don’t understand the problem, anyway they barely attend the meetings and only when they need a nap. Some funny Romanians suggested we build another Palace just for them, but they are so modest, they just want the chambers redone, to fit them all. They said 2013 will be hard with all the money we owe to the world and all the budget that is not enough for anything but they are remodeling the chambers. Oh, and I have found out today that they will increase the taxes starting next year. Probably for the chambers. We already have 24% VAT, a little bit more won’t kill us, right?

But sometimes desperate citizens try to commit suicide during meetings and they wake up

I didn’t check but I am pretty sure the USA don’t have as many congressmen as Romania. So here is us, topping USA, for the first time in our life as a nation! Another thing we are very good at isย cursing. We will probably use this skillย on our members of the Parliament. (Really now, you have to check these two links, Romanian cursing is beyond imagination!)

And just to remind you, eight more days till the Apocalypse. Ready or not? If not, the salvation is in the Romanian mountains. I will tell you tomorrow about it.

Love,

Lavinia:)

  1. Doggy's Style says:

    Hey!
In Spain there are as many senator as in Romania, all living from our taxes and screwing us up because we make too much money, of course they make too little and their salary can’t be touched.
    Looking forward to the Apocalypse.
